Are you a film-maker with a short film about the mountain adventures of an exciting woman or women? Following on from the success of last year's competition the BMC and WomenClimb are once again teaming up with ShAFF to put more adventurous women on the big screen!
PLEASE NOTE THE EXTENDED DEADLINE OF 31 JANUARY
If you've visited an adventure film festival recently you'll know that adventure films come in all shapes and sizes. From mini adventures and dramas to epic big-wall climbs, only imagination limits the possibilities filmmaking. However, in 2014 just a fifth of the films screened at ShAFF featured female protagonists, or were made by women. We want to change that.
The challenge
This competition is for amateur or professional film-makers to make a short film about the mountain adventures of outdoor women, and we'd especially welcome films where women are behind the camera as well as in front of it. We want to be inspired by films of women enjoying the outdoor and mountain environment.
The entries will be streamed on BMC TV after the closing date, and shared on the BMC's social channels.
The Judges
A panel of three judges consisting of top film makers Jen Randall and Rich Heap, and WomenClimb’s own Emily Pitts will pick their three top films from the entries.
Judge Jen Randall said: “I'm excited to be a judge in the BMC Women in Adventure film competition this year, not just to give out free passes because films are being made by or feature women, because it's excting and important to find new, strong, talented voices coming from and shedding light on a perspective that is not only underrepresented in adventure film, but in the film industry as a whole.”
The prize
The overall winner of the competition will receive £500 and have their film screened at the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival 2016. They will also receive two free weekend ShAFF passes. In partnership with The Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival, the winner will also receive a complimentary entry into the Banff Mountain Film Competition and a chance to be screened during the nine day Festival in Banff, Canada.
Second place will take home £200 plus a bunch of goodies and your film will be screened at events held to coincide with International Women's Day 2016.
Runners up (3rd, 4th and 5th place) will get a goody bag.
The "People's Choice" will receive a £150 prize, and will be based on the number of views received on BMC TV.
